Summer Medical Institute 2009 Applications Are Here!

Applications are here to join the SMI 2009 team in Harlingen as we work, play and grow together as a community dedicated to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. The dates for SMI 2009 are July 4 to August 1. Applications are due to Valley Baptist Family Practice Residency by 3/13/09. Check out some of the students’ testimonies from SMI 2008 for the very best promotion of a month you will remember the rest of your life. Fourth year (and even some third year) students are able to attend SMI and receive credit as an away family practice rotation! Click below for a:

Summer Medical Institute 2008
Twenty-Five students continued the SMI tradition in South Texas. Four weeks of medical outreach in Texas colonias and in Matamoros, Mexico served as the vehicle for training medical students to ‘put your faith into practice’. New friendships were formed with medical students from around the country as we experienced the community of Christ and expressed His love through the ministry of medicine. The students have returned home safely from Summer Medical Institute 2008! Despite Hurricane Dolly and the loss of power and dorm for one week, they have all flown back home in preparation for another year of medical school. We are thankful for the guidance of Valley Baptist Family Practice Residency as they headed SMI 2008. Opportunities at Esperanza Health Clinic

Philly’s local Christian clinic is moving and in need of help! Here are some opportunities to learn more about Esperanza, meet some people in their amazing community, and support their work:

Assist in their Medical Records Dept. – archiving medical records and photocopying patient records
Ongoing need for volunteer help in Medical Records to assist in filing/pulling patient charts (4 hrs/week).
Please pray they will receive their Certificate of Occupancy by mid-September, also for financial support including support for the actual move.
